Moving your entire office is challenging and time consuming, but it’s all worth it once you’re done with it. The sooner you’ll get started making your moving plans – the better, and the moving process itself has a few steps we’ll go over:
Step 1: Plan the move
This step should be done at least 3 month in advanced. During this time, you should plan the layout of the new office, hire a moving company, hire contractors for the new office, hire a locksmith, IT specialist, cleaning services, etc.
Step 2: Talk about it
Talk to your employees, as soon as possible, to help them make future plans. Some will need to leave early because the traffic will affect them now, some will be concerned about being in an open space layout all of a sudden, and some will be worried for their jobs. Hear them out, reassure them and let them know that you want to find a way to help and accommodate them.
Step 3: Moving prep
Start a moving calendar and sync it with all your employees and contractors. Get employees to help you out with some things- take inventory, purchase packing materials, etc.
Step 4: Physical move
This part will be the most intense part of the move, with most of the packing will be done ahead of time – leaving only objects essential to everyday office work. Some boxes will go straight into storage or archives.
This will take between 2-3 weeks.
Step 5: Unpacking
This step will take anywhere between 1-8 weeks, as some boxes can’t be unpacked until other parts are organized.
